August Recess Power Lunch

The Energy, Environment & Agriculture Task Force held its third annual Recess Power Lunch on August 23, 2017.  Attendees had the chance to network and hear from a panel of leaders in the field on career growth and professional development opportunities.  Panelists included Lorraine Gershman, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for the National Oilseed Processors Association, Bree Raum, Senior Director of Federal Affairs for the American Gas Association, Mary Martin, Deputy Majority Counsel for Energy & Environment at the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Kailee Tkacz, Policy Advisor at the United States Department of Agriculture.  Panelists discussed issues such as the need for advanced degrees, transitioning to Capitol Hill and Administration jobs, working at a trade association, and valuable lessons learned throughout their careers.

Welcome Back to Congress Reception

The WGR Energy, Environment, and Agriculture Task Force hosted its annual Welcome Back to Congress on February 2nd with almost 100 WGR members and Hill staffers. Since February 2nd is Groundhogs Day, the Task Force embraced the theme with winter and spring decorations and the Groundhog Day movie.

 


Recess Power Lunch

Over fifty women attended WGR’s Energy, Environment and Agriculture Task Force’s second annual “Recess Power Lunch” at Google’s DC office on August 10th.  Attendees included women handling energy, environment and agriculture issues working in both the public and the private sector.  Rachel Derby of the Portland Cement Association, Melissa Froelich of the House Energy & Commerce Committee and Elizabeth Kelsey of Morgan Meguire LLC (also an EEA task force co-chair) participated in a career panel discussion covering issues such networking, resume building, deciding whether to go back to school, and finding a professional mentor.  The event concluded with a lively question and answer session and some additional time for informal networking.  Many thanks to the generous support of Google and Pinnacle West for making this event possible. 

 


 Congressional Breakfast Series with Senate Leadership Energy and Environment Staff

March 18, 2016

On March 18th, the Energy, Environment, and Agriculture Task Force hosted a breakfast with Senate Leadership Energy and Environment Staff, Neil Chatterjee, Policy Advisor for Senate Majority Leader McConnell (R-KY) and Alex McDonough, Senior Policy Advisor for Senate Minority Leader Reid (D-NV).  Neil and Alex shared their thoughts and expectations for energy and environmental policy for the remainder of the 114th Congress. The Task Force thanks the American Gas Association for hosting the breakfast series this year.


Annual Fall Wine Tasting

The Energy, Environment and Agriculture Task Force held its annual wine tasting on October 22. The Capitol Hill townhouse was packed with government relations professionals networking and enjoying wine from Stone Tower Winery, a family-owned Virginia winery. Guests tasted two wines and a champagne in a keepsake wine glass and many won a great raffle prize as well. Thank you to our sponsors and raffle prize donors who made this event possible!


Congressional Breakfast Series with Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA)

On October 8, 2015, the WGR Energy, Environment and Agriculture Task Force hosted Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) at another successful Congressional Breakfast Series event.  Sen. Ernst, the first woman to represent Iowa in federal office, provided attendees with an in-depth overview of the Senate Agriculture Committee’s activities while also discussing the path forward on appropriations bills and some national security issues.  She said her first year in the Senate has been remarkable, and she encouraged all women to think about running for public office.  The Task Force thanks the American Gas Association for hosting the breakfast series this year.
