What Does CISA Law Mean for You & Other Cybersecurity Happenings with Leading Hill Staff

On January 12, the Homeland Security & Defense Task Force and the Telecom, Tech & IP Task Force co-hosted a panel of senior Hill staffers to discuss the passage of landmark cybersecurity legislation, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015, which was signed into law in December. The event featured Michael Geffroy, General Counsel for the Senate Intelligence Committee; Josh Alexander, Professional Staff Member for the Senate Intelligence Committee; Brett DeWitt, Staff Director for the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Security Technologies; and Diane Rinaldo, Professional Staff Member for the House Intelligence Committee. Moderator and fellow WGR member Dena Kozanas, Deputy Chief of Staff for Rep. Candace Miller ( R-MI, 10th), led what proved to be an informative review of the new law’s highlights and implications. A Lunch Discussion with FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel

On November 9th, the Telecom, Tech & IP Task Force hosted Federal Communications Commission, Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel for an conversational lunch with members.  Commissioner Rosenworcel provided some insight on the upcoming priorities for the FCC, women in the tech arena, and her career path. She then fielded questions on a range of topics related to telecommunications regulatory issues and career advancement.

On September 10th, the WGR Telecom, Tech & IP Task Force held a luncheon discussion with Linda Kinney, NTIA’s Senior Advisor for Internet Policy.  Ms. Kinney started off the event by providing some insight on the issues that NTIA is working on and key priorities for the internet policy division.  She then shared some information on her background and her career path leading up to her current role.  She also provided some guidance to WGR members on professional development.

 


Big Data: Big Implications for Consumer Product Safety

On June 18th, the Women in Government Relations The Telecom, Tech, & IP task force held a luncheon discussion entitled Big Data: Big Implications for Consumer Product Safety” with Consumer Product Safety Commissioner Marietta S. Robinson. Commissioner Robinson shared her views and goals on the use and review of Big Data as part of the agency's mission.  Additionally, the Commissioner discussed the 'Anchor It' campaign to encourage parents to anchor furniture to help prevent furniture hurting children. The Buzz with Tech Reporters

The Telecom, Tech & IP Task Force held The Buzz with Tech Reporters on May 20 at Verizon’s Washington DC office.  Appearing on the panel were Katy Bachman, Katy On the Hill; Kate Tumarello, Politico; and Lydia Beyoud, Bloomberg BNA.  The panel was moderated by Michelle Sara King of King Consults. The reporters discussed the news stories that they expect to receive coverage over the next several months, as well as their impressions and predictions on several hot topics in tech and telecom, including the broadband incentive auctions, net neutrality, and patent reform.  The reporters also gave thoughts on the use of social media in reporting and digital media platforms.
