Private Sector
Any person who is recognized as having professional responsibilities in the field of government relations* or public affairs and is engaged in an employment relationship with an entity in the private sector.

Public Sector
Any person who is recognized as having professional responsibilities in the field of government relations* and is engaged in an employment relationship
with any federal, state or local governmental entity.

Fulltime Students
Any person who supports the mission of WGR and is currently a fulltime undergraduate or graduate student at a College or University and who is not currently employed.

Any person who supports the mission of WGR and works in an industry that provides goods or services to public or private entities involved in the field of government relations.

Associate Member
Any person located outside of the Washington, DC metropolitan area (DC/VA/MD) or any person who has been a member in good standing and leaves the field of government relations for other professional endeavors or personal reasons such as involuntary termination of employment, pregnancy, child care or retirement.

* A Government Relations Professional…
- Takes an active role in determining the impact of legislative, executive branch or political activities at the federal, state and/or local levels;
- Drafts position papers, testimony or publications on legislative, political or regulatory/public policy issues, or who identifies, researches, tracks, or analyzes issues;
- Acts as official representative on legislative, political or regulatory public affairs/policy issues;
- Manages decision-making, strategy development, or policy determination with respect to Congress, the Administration, or state and local governments;
- Develops grassroots contact programs in order to influence legislation or government policy; and/or
- Determines and manages fundraising, solicitation, or the distribution of funds by a political action committee or other political organization, including issue, election and/or candidate analysis.
