About Caroline: As a leader on Deloitte's Policy & Government Relations team, I work to advance and protect Deloitte's business interests at the state and local levels. Born and raised in the DC-area, policy and politics have always been passions of mine and this role affords me the good fortune to work with Deloitte professionals from around the country and witness firsthand Deloitte's impact as an employer and as a professional services firm.

What attracted you to WGR and how has it helped you personally & professionally? I was fortunate to initially become engaged with WGR through Deloitte’s long-standing relationship with the organization. My appreciation for the organization deepened the more I became involved; I truly believe you get out what you’re willing to put in. Through WGR, I’ve created an amazing network of supportive and inspiring women who I can count on not only as professional allies but also as friends.

What skills do you think are most important in government relations and why?
Pick your battles and trust your instincts. We all know the landscape can change very quickly in Washington. An ability to navigate through change and remaining a steadfast source of stability during uncertain times is critical for building trust not only with lawmakers but also with clients.

What is your favorite part of your job? Each day I have a chance to work with an incredibly talented, inspiring and encouraging team. While we all come from different sides of the aisle and have diverse backgrounds, we are a tight-knit group and have learned to draw on our collective strengths. I love what I do, but the best part of my job is getting to work with these people.

What advice do you have for young women entering the field? Working in Government Relations can be a lot of fun and also at times be a source of great frustration. Some advice I received early in my career has been really helpful over the years: when you’re having a bad day, go take a walk on the Mall and take in the monuments. When you stop being inspired by them, that’s probably your cue to find a new career.
