WGR Annual Spring Reception honors the accomplishments of women sharing their vision and shaping the future of government relations professionals.  Honorees include female Members of Congress Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI).

Washington, D.C. - Women in Government Relations (WGR) will honor Reps. Martha McSally (R–AZ) and Tulsi Gabbard (D–HI) on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at the annual WGR Spring Reception. Reps. McSally and Gabbard are being recognized as outstanding women in Congress who have demonstrated true leadership in challenging the thinking of Congressional colleagues to influence change on issues women face in the workforce and who have worked collaboratively across the aisle to make America stronger.  Additional honorees include private sector Distinguished WGR Member Meredith Shue of Deloitte and Congressional Staff Member Colleen Carlos from the Office of Congressman Robert Brady (D-PA).

“This year we unite together to showcase the accomplishments of women in our industry and bring awareness to the issues women continue to face in the workplace.  We celebrate the great strides made to date with our honorees that are sharing their visions and shaping the future of WGR while acknowledging the work yet to be done,” said WGR President Katie Schubert.  “Tonight is an opportunity to network with others, expand our professional networks and exchange best practices in a relaxed and fun environment.”
Last year’s Spring Reception had more than 450 attendees of government relations professionals from across the DMV.  This event brings together the impressive women of Washington, DC not only to reflect on how far we’ve come, but also the work ahead of us. A recent study found that women earn roughly 82% of the full-time weekly paycheck of a man.  WGR partnered with Bloomberg Government to further evaluate the parity of pay between men and women. Additional information will be released in the coming weeks under a WGR Equal Pay one-pager, however it is the goal of WGR to use this information to aid conversations surrounding pay equity for future generations of female government relations professionals.

WGR will host its annual reception at the Hyatt Regency Washington on May 17, 2017, from 6 – 8 p.m.  More information about the event is available at

As was the intent of our founder’s 42 years ago, all proceeds raised at the event will be used to advance, empower and educate young female professionals who seek leadership roles in the government relations industry. We look forward to celebrating our “Sharing the Vision. Shaping the Future” event with you.
