WGR Professional Code of Conduct
The Women in Government Relations (WGR) Professional Code of Conduct is fundamental to the values of WGR and is essential to achieving our mission and vision. The advancement and empowerment of women by fostering professional development and growth opportunities through a community that supports women’s leadership in government relations can only be achieved by promoting the highest standards of ethics, excellence, stewardship, and community.
Since WGR’s inception in 1975, WGR has guided women in their professional development. As stated in the articles of incorporation, the organization was established to foster and encourage the educational and professional development of women in the field of government relations. High ethical standards are critical to maintaining the public’s trust in the government relations profession. Government relations professionals advocate on behalf of organizations and the public to ensure that policymakers are making informed decisions, that they receive high-quality information including all facets of a particular policy area and to ensure that all voices are heard.
WGR holds its members and guests to the highest standards of professional conduct, and expects that they act with integrity, competence, diligence, respect and in an ethical manner with the public, policymakers, clients, prospective clients, employers, employees, and colleagues in the government relations profession.
Furthermore, WGR members should act professionally, uphold accountability and transparency, observe their fiduciary responsibilities, maintain knowledge of the law(s) impacting their profession, participate in ethical activities, follow responsible fundraising practices, and where applicable, observe mandatory reporting requirements in their chosen profession.
WGR is committed to providing opportunities for members to continue their professional growth that meets its Professional Code of Conduct. WGR retains the right to remove members who do not abide by our professional code of conduct.
