Government Relations Associate, Self-Insurance Institute of America

Hometown: Clarksville, TN

Fun Fact: I grew up as a military brat! My dad retired after 23 years in the Army!

About Dakota: Hi! I am Dakota. I have lived in Washington, D.C. for roughly two years now as an 'adult'. I moved here as an undergrad for an internship on the Hill and fell in love with the city. I love to run, do yoga, go to OTF, and play with my two black labs! I am a huge animal and south block lover.

What attracted you to WGR and how has it helped you personally and professionally?
I originally became attracted to WGR after I was nominated for the Up and Comer of The Year Award. I started doing research into WGR and realized it would be a great opportunity to expand my network with a group of empowering women.

What advice do you have for young women entering the field?
I saw a quote the other day that spoke to me: “Do you remember the things you were worrying about a year ago? How did they work out? Didn't you waste a lot of fruitless energy on account of most of them? Didn't most of them turn out all right after all?” I think this a good reminder for all of us. If you work hard, stay determined, and do what you love, it will all work out.

What is your favorite part of your day job?
I love going to all the PAC events and social functions. I am a very extroverted person, so I love meeting new people!

What has been your most rewarding accomplishment/what are you most proud of?
Probably getting into Grad school. I was very intimated about going back to school, but have done very well in my program and I am happy to say I graduate in May! My other biggest personal accomplishment would be running a half marathon in an hour and 52 minutes!
