2024 Award Categories
Advocate of the Year
The Advocate of the Year award recognizes a mid-career advocacy professional for extraordinary work on behalf of a cause, industry or policy issue. The award recognizes women who have 8-20 years of experience in the advocacy field and have achieved
remarkable results as compared to their peers.
Advocate on the Rise
The Advocate on the Rise award recognizes an advocate for early achievements in their career and potential to be a successful contributor to the field. This award is designed to recognize women who have less than 8 years in the advocacy field.
Excellence in Advocacy by a Volunteer Leader
The Excellence in Advocacy by a Volunteer Leader award recognizes an advocacy effort by a volunteer that is not a paid advocate (e.g., association member, board representative). The advocate’s work will demonstrate a significant impact resulting
in a legislative, judicial or policy change.
Excellence in a Federal Issue Campaign
This award recognizes advocacy that successfully shaped the outcome of a federal legislative or regulatory problem or opportunity on behalf of a cause, community, issue, client, organization or coalition.
Excellence in a State Issue Campaign
This award recognizes an effort wherein the advocate(s) successfully impacted the outcome of a state or local legislative or regulatory problem or opportunity on behalf of their cause, community, issue, client, organization or coalition.
Excellence in a Campaign for Women's Issues
This award recognizes an effort wherein women advocate(s) successfully impacted the outcome of a problem or opportunity on behalf of other women. The awardee will use their voice to advocate on issues impacting women (e.g., health care, retirement,
pay equity, gender-based violence, etc.) resulting in a legislative, regulatory or policy change that improves the lives of women.
Excellence in Innovation in Advocacy
This award recognizes how the use of innovative approaches or technologies can achieve breakthrough results. Examples of innovation include new or novel uses of software, hardware, platforms, gadgets and devices.
Excellence in Communications in an Advocacy Campaign
This award recognizes the power of strategic communications in advocacy. The awardee(s) will have employed communications best practices - including sound strategy, tactics, and execution - to make a demonstrable impact on advocacy outcomes. Examples
can include social media.
The Lifetime Achievement Award
(formerly called ‘Excellence in Advocacy by a Veteran Practitioner’)
This award recognizes the achievements and contributions of a senior level advocacy professional over the course of their career. Designed to recognize women with more than 20 years of experience in the advocacy field, an awardee will be selected
from nominations made by Women in Government Relations and therefore this category is not included in the nomination form.
About the Excellence in Advocacy Awards Process: Nominations are reviewed by peer judges from the WGR membership. Using a score matrix, the peer judges work together to select finalists for Excellence in - a Federal Issue Campaign, a State Issue Campaign, Campaign for Women's Issues, and Communications in an Advocacy Campaign, in addition to the Advocate on the Rise and Advocate of the Year. Nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award will be selected from nominations made by Women in Government Relations.
