The Basics of Health Insurance

What’s a deductible? How does a risk pool work? It is critical that advocates in health policy have a working knowledge of core health insurance elements. The “Basics of Health Insurance” session (the first in our “Back to Basics” series) will provide a foundation for a better understanding of our nation’s health insurance programs for health policy experts and newbies alike. This session will cultivate a practical understanding of how health insurance works and cover the basic terminology, mechanics of coverage, and core federal policies that underpin health insurance in the United States. Attendees can expect an overview of types of health insurance, patient cost sharing, regulatory frameworks and other highlights. There will be ample time for questions.
